A Day Trip in the Welland Area

Introduction

Thanks to my mom and dad, we discovered another great day trip. I'll do a better writeup with a map later.

Wander up to Niagara-On-The-Lake

Start out by taking the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge to Canada, take Highway 405 to the QEW (north), then get off on 55 North. Up a jig and a jog on the left is the Ice Creamery, which has homemade ice cream, a fruit and vegetable market, and a nice little store. Continue north all the way to Niagara-on-the-Lake, and wander around the village, taking in all the nice homes and great scenery.

Head Down to the Welland Canal

Meander back down south via Lakeshore Road, and after a quick left-and-right you'll come to Quiet Acres Farm on the right side of the road. The cherries, peaches, and other fruits are fabulous! Next, go all the way down to where Lakeshore Road meets the Welland Canal, and go to Lock 3. There's a nice visitors' centre, where you can watch lake freighters use the lock to go up or down.

Stock Up On Good Stuff

After that, head to the Pen Centre and Zehr's in St. Catherines, where you can get groceries you can't find around here, and some really great baked goods.

(More to come ...)
