Committee Meeting Notes for January 25, 2001
The meeting was held at Maple East, in Room 50, at 7:00 PM, and ended at
around 8:10 PM. In attendance were:
- Darlene Carroll
- Kevin Lanighan
- Luanne Mazzoni
- Chris Sabuda
- Kathi Sullivan
- Jean-Claude Thill
- Mike Townsend
- Dave Yearke
The following items were discussed:
- We talked about the ZooMobile, and that it was well-received.
- The Pinewood Derby generated quite a bit of discussion. Some
of the ideas for next year include:
- Running one derby for everyone, instead of five separate ones;
- Eliminating the Best Car Trophy;
- Substituting a ribbon for the Best Car Trophy;
- Ribbons or certificates for coolest, goofiest, brightest, etc. cars;
- Dr. Gibbs wants to sponsor a Principal's Trophy. Ideas include:
- Award to best car obviously built by a kid;
- Adversity award for car that doesn't finish; and
- Pick all fifth (or last) place cars, run new race for them.
We will start reviewing all the rules and procedures early next year,
so that we can make changes and have time for review by the Pack.
- While on the topic of the Pinewood Derby, we'd like to thank Bill
and John Sullivan for helping with the Country Parkway Pinewood Derby,
which earned $50 for the Pack. They, along with Tommy Yearke, will
be helping at the St. Mary's Derby on January 26th, which will earn
another $50 for the Pack. Thanks, guys!
- The January 29th Pack meeting will feature the Arrow of Light Ceremony
for Webelos II, and the Webelos Ceremony for Webelos I. Pat is
planning the former, and the four leaders from the two Webelos I Dens
will plan a ceremony for their Dens.
- We will have a sledding/tobogganing outing at Chestnut Ridge Park on
Sunday, February 11th, starting at 1:00 PM.
- Den 1 will perform the flag ceremony at the January Pack meeting.
- Rick Stachura from Boy Scout Troop 262 (Mill Middle) invited the
Webelos I Dens to a Troop meeting on Tuesday, January 30th, at
7:30 PM at Mill Middle. He is also going to try and attend our
January 29th Pack meeting.
- Pat had a packet of information for each Den. She also asked if
the Wolf and Bear Dens are interested in the Progress Toward Rank
beads. The Den leaders should call her if they are.
- Dave is almost done with the re-chartering paperwork. He still
needs to get signatures from one of the new PTA presidents. We
will not meet Quality Unit status this year, but can work towards
getting it next year (we don't meet the leader training criteria).
- We are having a Spring Outward Bound at the Penn Dixie Site in
Hamburg on March 31st at 2:00 PM.
- Mike reported that we have a healthy balance in our checking account.
He is still dealing with the Mischler's fundraiser from last year,
but everything else is pretty stable.
- February 5-9th is Scouting Anniversary Week. We are looking for
someone to volunteer to reserve the display case in the main hall,
and to decorate it if we can use it. We will ask at the next
Pack meeting for a volunteer.
- February 7th is the day where all Scouts should wear their uniforms
to school. A reminder of various dates like this will be mailed
out in the next week.
- Chris Sabuda volunteered his Den (2) to do the Scouting for Food
drive this year.
- The remainder of the meeting was spent discussing the Blue &
Gold Breakfast:
- Darlene Carroll is chairing it, and wants to get volunteers
to help decorate;
- We moved the Wolf and Bear Badge awards to the March 26th
Pack meeting, so our itinerary so far consists of eating and
the Webelos II Crossover ceremony;
- We discussed what we've done in past years, and decided that we
can afford a guest speaker. Various people are going to research
some of the ideas we had, and we want to make a decision by
February 2nd; and
- Each Den will make a centerpiece, as in past years. We don't
have a theme, so they can make whatever they want.
