Committee Meeting Notes for October 26, 2000
The meeting was held at Maple East, in Room 50, at 7:00 PM, and ended at
around 8:30 PM. In attendance were:
- Steve Bezinque
- Darlene Carroll
- Kevin Lanighan
- Linda Pinski
- Chris Sabuda
- Kathi Sullivan
- Mike Townsend
- Dave Yearke
The following items were discussed:
- We welcomed two new Den Leaders, Chris Sabuda (2) and Steve
Bezinque (5). We also welcomed Darlene Carroll, who is doing
a lot of footwork in helping prepare for the Blue & Gold
Breakfast.
- The Den Leaders were reminded that the popcorn order forms
are due no later than Monday night's Pack meeting.
- We talked about the Old Fort Niagara Encampment, and what
a great success it was. We had 29 kids and 24 adults
attend.
- The leaders were reminded about Pow Wow! on November 11th
at the Lancaster High School.
- We talked about the skating party on November 4th. Dave is
going make a flyer to hand out at the next Pack meeting. Scouts
will skate for free, and it will cost all others $2.
- Kevin talked about meeting agendas:
- The October Pack meeting will feature Stella Gillick telling
scary stories, and some other Hallowe'en activities.
- The November meeting will feature an Army Reserve Color Guard
performing the flag ceremony, and the Bobcat ceremony.
- We may try to get the ZooMobile for the December meeting. We
are also going to try and change it to December 11th, to avoid
the conflict with the fourth grade concert.
- The popcorn money will also be due at the November meeting.
Mike has requested that the Den Leaders collect the popcorn money from
their Scouts, and turn it in to Mike as a lump sum, to make
this process easier and less confusing. As always, checks
should be made out to "Pack 222".
- We talked about Rick Stachura's proposal to become a Boy Scout
liaison to our Pack. Rick is with Boy Scout Troop 262, Mill
Middle School, and this would be something that would benefit
both groups. Kevin is going to talk to him. Steve suggested
they could do a demo of Boy Scout camping at the March meeting.
- Kevin is going to try and book in Scouthaven weekends as soon
as they become available. Dave expounded again on how great
the four-day camp is, especially for the Webelos, although
the other ranks would have a great time, too.
- Pat couldn't attend, but sent e-mail that she would have service
stars and summer awards for the next Pack meeting.
We will continue to do awards and advancements at Pack meetings,
but we'll keep them quick, with Den Leaders presenting to their
own Dens as a group. Steve raised the point that it was always
nice in the past to have a parent stand behind each Scout, and it
was agreed that this is a tradition to which we should return.
- Kathi is willing to do a newsletter, or a newsletter-like service
on the web page, but needs the help of the Den Leaders to do it.
She wants this to be a resource where Den Leaders can find out
what sorts of activities are available in the area, based on the
feedback of other Dens who have done these activities. During
this discussion we were reminded that Rob still has our Pack
library, and Kevin is going to contact him.
- Membership is almost done. There are two more leader forms and
two more Cub forms to be processed, and only a handful of
outstanding checks to collect.
- The web pages will be updated ASAP.
- The Pinewood Derby cars and rules were distributed to the Den
Leaders. Dave reminded them that we have some extra car kits
from last year, so if anyone loses a wheel or axle, we have
some spares.
- Darlene talked about the Blue & Gold Breakfast. She has
gotten prices from The Eagle House, Italian Village, and
Shepherd's Pub. They all have very reasonable prices, but the
first two could only hold 100-120 people, whereas Shepherd's
can hold about 200, which is closer to what we may have. She
will continue to investigate some other places, and we will
make a decision at the November Committee meeting.
- It was decided that the Pack will purchase one case of the $7
caramel popcorn, to use as gifts and gratuities.
