Pack Meeting Notes for May 20, 2000
In lieu of a regular meeting, we encouraged everyone to attend
Camperall 2000 at Chestnut Ridge Park. As many people were coming
at different times, and as the park is very large, we decided not
to try and congregate as a Pack.
Here's what happened:
- Despite the non-stop drizzle, the Cub activities took place
from 9:00 AM until 11:45 AM. It started with a helium balloon
launch, where biodegradable toy balloons with postcards attached
were simultaneously launched by all the Cubs. Prizes will be
awarded to whomever launched the balloon/postcard that is returned
from the farthest location.
- Other Cub activities included watching model rocket launches;
model airplane demonstrations; inflatable toys; a punt, pass, and
kick competition; pushcart races; an obstacle course; climbing
across monkey bridges; launching water-powered rockets; soccer ball
kicking courtesy of the Buffalo Blizzard; archery; extreme bicycling
demonstrations; and a magic show.
- After lunch, the Midway opened up. This included some of the
aforementioned Cub activities, plus firefighting demos, army trucks,
a merit badge midway, a trading post, a U.S. Postal Service truck
selling special Camperall 2000 cancellations, and a whole lot more.
- There was a fascinating exhibit of Scouting memorabilia, including
an original 1911 Boy Scout uniform, thousands of patches, original
handbooks, wartime Scout exhibits, and much more.
- This was well worth attending. From what we could see, about a
dozen Scouts from our Pack attended, despite the weather.
We hope that everyone who attended had a lot of fun.
