I believe this picture was taken in 1901, at the same time as the other Manquen family picture; it also shows the family of John and Barbara Manquen, my great-great grandparents, in front of their home at 399 Spring Street. The house behind it on the left side of the picture is the Fred and Matilda Harlach residence at 13 Hollister, and behind that one is John E. and Anna Manquen's home at 17 Hollister.
Sandy Cerenzia passed this sad, but interesting, story to me: Her father, Victor Manquen, was a city building inspector; one of his responsibilities was to order the demolition of buildings beyond repair. She has photos of the inside and outside of the most difficult demolition he ever ordered: 17 Hollister Street, where his mother, his siblings, and he himself were born and raised. She still remember the pain of seeing what had become of his childhood home.
