Welcome To My Genealogy Site

Introduction

Hi, I'm Dave Yearke, a Buffalo native born from families of which some have called Western New York home for over 150 years. This web site contains my research for some of them, particularly the Yearke (Gierke), Harlach, Manquen, Gruber, Doster, Drenken (Drenkhan), Frei, and Schmiedl families. You will also find some information about the Stucke family here, but this is a not a primary research area of mine, as I am not directly descended from them.

Here are some of the reasons why genealogy is an important hobby to me.

Important notice about this web site: I am a believer in the Standards For Sharing Information With Others, and will not put any information about living relatives, other than their names, on this site without their express permission. Please contact me at dave@yearke.net if you want your information included, or want other modifications made to your personal data.

News

I made a brief list of some of the microfilmed items available at the BECPL.

I found an obituary for John Manquen in the Erie Railroad Employee Magazine, and put the text if it here.

I am now journaling my research on-line.

My beloved grandma, Alma Gruber, who contributed much to my family research, passed away on April 6, 2004.

There is a new mailing list/group, "wnygen", and I encourage Western New York researchers to give it a try.

My biography of Harvey Yearke is coming along nicely, thanks to input from my Dad. I've also started a biography of his father, Albert Yearke.

Starting Points

Software, Links, Acknowledgements, and Wishes

On this page you will find information on the software I'm using for my research, as well as some utilities I've written.

I have found a variety of useful links for my research, which others may also find useful.

I also have a few people to thank for their help with this project.

Finally, I have a wish list of items that would help this project. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone who can help with any of these would contact me.
